The perfect tool to aid discussion and to guide LA students in the analysis of Scrooge.

A 3 part lesson which builds the necessary skills to push for higher marks designed for language paper 1, question 5. However, differentiated versions have been used with a variety of ages and abilities with much success also. This resource is designed to respond to an assessment for a Year 9 class, but is easily edited to match the needs of the class. Lesson one focus: structuring a response, lesson 2: some elements of linguistic devices and advanced vocabulary, and then concluded with the production of a Section B response. Multiple hours of designing, editing and careful thought, so please let me know how your classes get on and any suggestions you would make to make this better.

This fully-differentiated lesson is based on creating a setting description using basic (some advanced) language techniques, including a summary of word classes. Based on the description of District 12, students are pushed to create their own dilapidated setting. Learning challenge and arrival activity (Introduce), fully differentiated with clear outcomes to show progress. Address gaps in knowledge before moving on. Task Two: Using previous task, create a run-down setting using stock images as a stimulus. A MA lesson which links personification to pop-culture and builds towards a descriptive task. Used for a LA class and was the most successful method in understanding personification. Explores the theme of power in ‘Macbeth’ and encourages subjectivity and discussion. Used for a double lesson and prompted a great discussion on the role of power in the 21st century and then linked to the play. Use with ‘Ozymandias’ also.

LA KS3 double lesson.

Sequence on improving creative writing with the goal of peer assessing the work of others and analysing language choices. A focus on crafting and building better writing. LA-MA KS3.

Extract work using WOTW and building towards creating an effective science-fiction opening. Edit and tweak depending on prior knowledge of topic as this was week three in a eight week sequence. KS3 MA.

A lesson introducing the character of Sherlock Holmes, building to an analysis question on the initial description of the detective. MA KS3.

A fully resourced, differentiated and challenging lesson aimed at introducing KS4 to themes in the AQA Power and Conflict cluster. Full lesson plan is available on request. Please check poems which are on the PowerPoint and edit accordingly. This lesson took a lot of time to create and focused on researched strategies and a real emphasis on strecth and challenge. Researched collection of reading strategies to support students in their reading development in a post-lockdown era. The strategies are aimed at secondary school ages, but can be easily adapted. Would appreciate feedback or tweaks based on effectiveness.
